Let’s stop waiting and start building.
If you’ve been waiting to start your open-source journey, Open Sprint by the Sahyadri Open-Source Women’s Community (SOSWC) is your sign! A hands-on challenge that takes you from “What is Git?” to “I just merged my first PR”, open to all students.
About the Event
Open Sprint is a fun yet structured path to making your first open-source contribution. The sprint is designed to:
- Encourage creativity & innovation: a space to build and experiment outside regular coursework.
- Promote collaboration: peer learning and community-driven code.
- Enable real-world impact: moving from local projects to meaningful contributions to global open-source repositories.
Challenge Rounds
Round 1: The Creative Kickstart
Build something fun and unconventional: a quirky web app, a creative visualization, a mini tool, a simple game, or anything that shows off your originality. Any language or stack is welcome; the focus is on imagination, not perfection.
Round 2: Sync & Solve
Step into the role of reviewer and developer. Pick another participant’s Round 1 project, find something to improve, and raise a proper pull request with a clear description.
Round 3: Open-Source Contribution
Go live. Make at least one valid contribution (bug fix, feature, or significant documentation improvement) to an existing open-source project on GitHub.
